DESCRIPTION

Located in Var Brûlé, in the southeast of Rodrigues, Bakwa Lodge enjoys a remarkable natural setting. The lodge opens onto a white sand beach that stretches for several kilometers, nestled between crystal-clear waters and verdant hills. Here, nature sets the tone: stroll along the water's edge, enjoy the lagoon, or set off to explore the island's trails.

The story of Bakwa Lodge is that of an abandoned site transformed into a charming retreat. The old buildings have been converted into pavilions that blend seamlessly into the surrounding vegetation, particularly the pandanus trees, known locally as "bakwa" in Rodrigues. The architecture and décor favor a simple and natural aesthetic, featuring louvered shutters, wooden terraces, and locally crafted elements.

The lodge welcomes a limited number of visitors to preserve its peaceful atmosphere and intimate character. It is an ideal destination for travelers seeking tranquility, unspoiled landscapes, and an authentic Rodriguan experience.

A commitment to the environment

Bakwa Lodge adopts several practices designed to limit its environmental impact. Rainwater is collected, filtered, and treated before being transformed into drinking water. Greywater is reused to irrigate the garden, which features species adapted to the local vegetation.

The lodge also prioritizes low-density outdoor lighting to preserve the stargazing experience. Air conditioning and ceiling fans are available in the rooms, but guests are encouraged to enjoy the sea breeze through the louvered shutters.

ROOMS

The accommodations at Bakwa Lodge combine comfort, simplicity, and natural materials. All rooms face the sea and offer views of the surrounding landscape. Common amenities listed in the description include a king-size bed or twin beds depending on the room category, a bathroom, a hairdryer, a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe, a ceiling fan, air conditioning, and mosquito repellent.

Daily housekeeping is provided. Beach towels and coolers are available upon request, as is a laundry service.

Family Suite 35 m² - Designed to accommodate a family or small group, the Family Suite comprises two bedrooms: one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. It features an en-suite bathroom as well as an outdoor shower with hot water. Both bedrooms open through large double doors onto a wooden terrace, creating a pleasant flow between indoors and outdoors. (Maximum capacity: 4 people)

Lagoon Suite 35 m² - Spacious and open to the sea, the Lagoon Suite includes a double bed and a single bed. Its open-plan bathroom and outdoor shower with hot water enhance the feeling of being close to nature. Large double doors open onto a wooden terrace, ideal for enjoying the mild climate and the view of the lagoon. (Maximum capacity: 3 people)

Seaside villa 103 m² - This villa is ideal for large families or groups of friends. It comprises two main bedrooms and a mezzanine with four single beds. The main bedrooms have open-plan en-suite bathrooms with sea views.

A large living room separates the two bedrooms and includes a kitchenette equipped with dishes, glasses, a kettle, a refrigerator, and a microwave, allowing for independent meal preparation. The villa opens onto spacious wooden verandas at the front and rear, offering beautiful views of the beach and the sea. (Maximum capacity: 8 people)

Water sports

The lagoon in front of the lodge is particularly well-suited to kitesurfing and windsurfing. Conditions are generally most favorable from June to October.
